Fueling the Performing Body

Sustainable Performance in the Real World · Session 06 of 10

Live on Zoom · Feb 22 · 12pm

Fueling isn't a diet topic. It's part of how you heal, adapt, and perform.

Artists forget to eat. Between rehearsal, class, a day job, and a commute, food becomes the thing that gets squeezed. This session isn't about diet culture. It's about what happens to healing, injury risk, and performance quality when a body is chronically under-fueled, and how to fix it without a complicated plan.

What You’ll Do:

  • Learn what energy availability is and how under-fueling connects to fatigue and injury, including how to recognize Relative Energy Deficiency in Dance (RED-D)

  • Audit a typical rehearsal or show day and spot where the fuel gaps are

  • Problem-solve realistic fixes in small groups, including strategies for irregular schedules and pre- and post-show basics

  • Leave with a performer fueling quick guide and a healthcare team reference for when to see a registered dietitian
